Our 5-day itinerary takes you to two islands in the Azores: Sao Miguel and Santa Maria. Experience a whale & dolphin watch, a tour of Furnas and Fogo, and a full day on Santa Maria, the Sun Island. Known for its white sand beaches and for being the sunniest and most southern of the island group, you will love Santa Maria.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1:

Welcome to the Green Island

Upon your arrival on Sao Miguel, you’ll be met by a private driver and brought to your hotel in Ponta Delgada. The rest of the day is yours to explore the cobblestone streets of the Azore’s largest city.

Day 2:

Eastern Sao Miguel/Furnas Tour

This scenic tour of the eastern side of Sao Miguel begins with a stop in the beautiful seaside town of Vila Franca do Campo to taste the famous Queijadas de Vila Franca, a traditional pastry refined by nuns in convents during the 1600s. You will continue to Terra Nostra Park to visit the award-winning botanical gardens and you will have a chance to soak in the geothermal hot springs. The tour continues to Furnas Lake, where you will be able to watch your traditional cozido lunch being prepared using the island’s geothermal energy. After lunch, you will continue to the viewpoint of Pico do Ferro, where you will see the archipelago’s oldest crater. On your return journey to Ponta Delgada, you’ll stop at a tea plantation and at the Santa Iria viewpoint to take in the breathtaking views.

Day 3:

Sun Island Tour

Your day starts off with transfer to the airport and a 30-minute flight to Santa Maria, the Sun Island. You’ll be picked up for your tour the island, exploring the unique architecture, white houses, and beautiful beach. The Sun Island is known for its white sand beaches and for being the sunniest of the Azorean islands - it's the perfect spot to spend your last full day in the Azores.

Day 4:

Whale and Dolphin Watching Tour

Today, you’ll set out for a group whale watch to spot bottle nose dolphins, pilot whales, and as many as 21 other marine species that call these waters home. Visitors are practically guaranteed to spot marine life every day of the year! The night is yours to relax back in town.

Day 5:

Until Next Time

After breakfast, you’ll have some time to shop for souvenirs or simply relax with the locals before your transfer back to the airport for your flight home.
