8 Day - Best of the Azores
Upon your arrival at Ponta Delgada International Airport you’ll be met by a private driver and brought to your city center hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore the cobblestone streets of the Azores’ largest city. Relax on the areas volcanic black sand beaches or visit the baroque lava stone church of Senhor Santo Cristo.
A morning pick up from your hotel for a scenic drive around the island. The first stop will be in the beautiful seaside town of Vila Franca do Campo to taste the famous Queijadas da Vila. Followed by a stop at Terra Nostra Park to visit the award wining botanical garden. The tour continues to Lagoa das Furnas, where you will be able to watch your lunch, Cozido das Furnas, being prepared directly in the hot springs. After lunch you will continue to Miradouro do Ferro, where you will see the archipelagos oldest crater, home to some of the world’s richest hydro polis of the world with 22 different kinds of mineral/medicinal waters. On your return journey to Ponta Delgada you’ll stop at Tea Factory and Miradouro de Santa Iria to take in the breathtaking views.
The afternoon begins with a stop at the islands Pineapple Plantation for a local liquor tasting and the opportunity to try the islands’ delicious fruit. After the visit you will stop along some of the most scenic look out points on the eastern end of the island. Making sure to stop at Vista do Rei where you’ll see the iconic blue and green lakes set in a large crater.
Today is yours to explore Sao Miguel on your own or visit the Island of the Sun, Santa Maria. This optional excursion will require a thirty-minute morning flight to Vila do Porto where you’ll be picked up and taken on an island tour. Visiting the historic sites of where Christopher Columbus stopped on his return voyage from the Americas, the beautiful bay of Sao Laurenco and lunch at a local restaurant. An evening flight back to Ponta Delgada. Please note: this tour is available on select dates.
A quick inter-island flight to Terceira where you will be met by a private driver and taken to your hotel in Angra do Herorismo. The third island to be discovered by the Portuguese is home to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Angra do Herorismo, this evening enjoy strolling the lilac filled streets and find a local restaurant to try the islands dish, Alcatra.
A morning pick up from your hotel to tour this gorgeous island known for all its festivities. Along the scenic route you’ll have the opportunity to visit small villages with their unique lava pools and tour the islands oldest settlement, Sao Sebastiao. Before returning to your hotel you’ll stop in the town of Biscoitos to visit the wine cellars and taste the local wines. The evening is yours to enjoy the city.
